illegal Iowa water filters

Today I got my new Cabela's and Campmor catalogues. My whole family is
wondering why both are not allowed to sell water filters/purifiers in
Iowa??? The iodine tablets seem ok, but all the filter systems have a
note that they cannot sell them if you live in Iowa? What gives?

It appears to me that Iowas state's groundwater is extremely contaminated.

Many of the water filters are snake oil. They block cysts, but not bacteria and virus particles. The CDC only approves boiling water for back county sanitation. To date no filter has passed Iowa's not so difficult purity testing. Iowa has a contact, Michael Magnant at 515-281-8722, for this issue. it's not government that is the problem. It's big business selling anything they can without concern for your safety.

Not true. The CDC acknowledges multiple methods. Yes boiling is very effective, but filtration and disinfection can be accomplished with multiple means.
